Hi, my name is Lynne & i am the proud keeper of Izzy our F1 Goldendoodle and the lovely Poppy our Standard Poodle & Our newest addition Ruby our North American Retriever or Double Doodle. We all live in Dumfries, South West Scotland.
A Goldendoodle is a mixed breed dog, a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. The name Goldendoodle was created in 2000 by combining “Golden”, from Golden Retriever, and “doodle” from Poodle. Poodle crossbreeds have become increasingly popular and it is likely that this combination has been duplicated by breeders in various countries at different times.
The first Goldendoodles were likely due to accidental breeding (what wonderful accidents) between Golden Retrievers and Poodles. Later, intentional crossing of Golden Retrievers and Standard Poodles was done in both North America and Australia in the early 1990's. They are usually bred to be a family companion dog. However, some are bred for careers in service to humans as Guide Dogs, Therapy Dogs and Assistance dogs.
